We are seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator with deep expertise in SQL Server architecture, performance tuning, high availability, and modern Azure data services. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of enterprise database environments while supporting cloud modernization initiatives across Azure SQL, Azure Managed Instance, and related data platform services.

Senior SQL DBA + Azure Data Services
Overview
We are seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator with deep expertise in SQL Server architecture, performance tuning, high availability, and modern Azure data services. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of enterprise database environments while supporting cloud modernization initiatives across Azure SQL, Azure Managed Instance, and related data platform services.
Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and optimize SQL Server instances across on-prem and Azure environments.
- Design and implement backup/restore strategies, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions (Always On, clustering, replication).
- Perform advanced performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, and troubleshooting.
- Manage migrations to Azure SQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and hybrid architectures.
- Implement and maintain Azure Data Services including Azure SQL, Azure Storage, Azure Monitor, Azure Automation, and Azure Backup.
- Support ETL workflows, data pipelines, and integrations using tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and related services.
- Ensure database security, compliance, access controls, encryption, and auditing.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, and DevOps teams to support application performance and database design.
- Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, and Azure automation tools.
- Monitor capacity, growth, and system health using SQL Server native tools and Azure monitoring capabilities.
- 8+ years as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments.
- Strong experience with SQL Server 2016-2022, including internals, indexing, partitioning, and query optimization.
- Hands-on experience with Azure SQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Storage, Azure Backup, Azure Monitor.
- Expertise in HA/DR: Always On Availability Groups, clustering, replication, log shipping.
- Proficiency in T-SQL, PowerShell, and automation scripting.
- Experience supporting ETL, data pipelines, and SSIS or Azure Data Factory.
- Strong understanding of database security, encryption, RBAC, and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, or Azure Data Lake.
- Familiarity with DevOps pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) for database deployments.
- Experience with performance monitoring tools (Redgate, SolarWinds DPA, SentryOne).
- Background in financial, healthcare, or other regulated industries.
