Helpful
The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is the nexus of two major public universities, each with a distinct mission but focused on world-class engineering education and research. Created by the Florida Legislature in 1982, the joint organization is the college of engineering for both Florida A&M and Florida State universities. This unique combination of focus, resources and mission from our parent university has created on our campus a truly innovative atmosphere that leverages the benefits of the traditional HBCU model with the innovations of an R1 public research university. The College fosters interdisciplinary research and collaboration across engineering, science, medicine, and other fields, while providing faculty, researchers, and students access to the complementary expertise and resources of both universities. All seven of the college's eligible undergraduate degree programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET .

Faculty Information
CBE has a dynamic group of faculty members actively involved in research encompassing various areas of chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, and biomedical engineering. The department has seen major expansion in the graduate and undergraduate biomedical and chemical engineering education and research activities since the establishment of an undergraduate BME degree in 2019 through the hiring of 15 new faculty members and approximately doubling of the graduate and undergraduate enrollment. The expanding college of engineering has increased research expenditures by 195% over the last 5 years ($87.6M in FY2025) and is continuing to grow its faculty and campus. A new research facility (the Interdisciplinary Research and Commercialization Building) was completed in Spring of 2025, and an additional engineering building was recently funded by the state legislature. Our nationally recognized and award-winning faculty members have access to state-of-the-art laboratories for research in biomedical and chemical engineering and the two programs are closely integrated in research and education. In addition to present faculty at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and its associated research centers, successful candidates will have many opportunities to interact and collaborate at both universities (including the FSU College of Medicine, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, and the FAMU College of Pharmacy).
