Job Summary:

The Runner is responsible for delivering food and beverages from the kitchen to the dining area, ensuring that orders are accurate, presented well, and delivered in a timely manner. You will work closely with servers and kitchen staff to facilitate smooth service during meal periods, assisting in maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Your role is essential in ensuring guests have a seamless dining experience by ensuring the efficient flow of food from the kitchen to the table.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Food & Beverage Delivery:
    • Transport food and beverages from the kitchen to the dining area promptly and accurately, ensuring that each item matches the guest's order.
    • Double-check orders before delivery to ensure accuracy, including any special requests or dietary preferences.
    • Assist in delivering food to guests when necessary, working closely with servers to ensure all orders are presented correctly and in a timely manner.
    • Serve food with attention to detail, ensuring proper plating and garnish as required by the restaurant's standards.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Communicate effectively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service and address any order discrepancies or special requests.
    • Help ensure that orders are prioritized and sent out quickly, especially during peak service hours.
    • Assist servers in replenishing drinks, side items, and condiments as needed.
    • Work alongside bussers and other team members to maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the dining area.
  • Dining Area Support:
    • Clear empty plates and utensils from tables as guests finish their meals, assisting with the resetting of tables for the next guests.
    • Help maintain the organization of the dining area by ensuring it is free of clutter and properly stocked with necessary supplies.
    • Ensure that any unused items, such as glassware or silverware, are quickly and efficiently removed to keep tables neat and tidy.
  • Safety & Sanitation Standards:
    • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines in the handling and delivery of food and beverages.
    • Ensure that all food deliveries are handled with care to avoid spillage and maintain cleanliness in the dining area.
    • Regularly clean trays, carts, and any other service items to ensure sanitation standards are met.
  • Support Kitchen Operations:
    • Assist kitchen staff with organizing and arranging food items for delivery to guests.
    • Ensure that all food is correctly labeled and prepared for the correct guest, paying attention to special instructions.
    • Communicate with the kitchen team to relay any special guest requests or changes to orders.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in a food service or hospitality role, such as a busser or runner, is a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures in a restaurant setting.

Skills/Specialized Knowledge

  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when it comes to cleanliness and organization.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work efficiently with team members and engage with guests as needed.
  • Ability to stay focused and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork and willingness to assist others when necessary to ensure smooth operations.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and move around the dining room for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, including trays, dishes, and supplies.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach to clean and organize the dining area.
