Custodian duties include cleaning and sanitizing facilities, performing basic maintenance (such as changing light bulbs and fixing minor issues), ensuring building security, managing waste and recycling, and supporting events or emergency clean-ups. These responsibilities ensure buildings remain safe, hygienic, and operational.
Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and buff floors.
Dust furniture, fixtures, windowsills, and surfaces.
Clean and disinfect restrooms; restock supplies.
Empty trash, compost, and recycling.
Perform deep-cleaning tasks such as carpet extraction or window washing
Replace light bulbs, tighten fixtures, patch minor wall damage.
Unclog drains, lubricate hinges, perform minor paint touch-ups.
Report major repair needs to maintenance staff.
Lock/unlock buildings and monitor entrances.
Follow chemical-handling and safety protocols.
Conduct routine inspections to identify hazards.
Sweep walkways, entrances, and parking areas.
Maintain building exteriors as needed.
