Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of the Clinical Learning Center (CLC) is responsible for supporting and enhancing the delivery of clinical skills education within the medical and physician assistant curricula. The position reports to the Director of the CLC and provides operational, instructional, and educational design support for simulation-based and standardized patient learning activities.

Primary responsibilities include supporting the development and implementation of clinical skills curricula, managing simulation and audiovisual learning technologies, coordinating standardized patient programs, and contributing to continuous quality improvement of instructional activities and learning environments.

This position requires a minimum of 75% instructional support responsibilities, with limited research and creative activity expectations

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Support
  • Support development and implementation of integrated clinical skills curriculum materials for medical and physician assistant students.
  • Assist with design and facilitation of small group learning sessions and simulation-based instructional activities.
  • Provide informal coaching, tutoring, and clinical skills support to students.
  • Contribute to interprofessional education initiatives and curriculum integration efforts.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).
  • Assist in the orientation, training, assessment, and quality assurance of standardized patients.
  • Develop clinical case scenarios and program scenarios into simulation systems and task trainers.
  • Support troubleshooting and instructional use of simulation technologies (e.g., Laerdal, Gaumard, and related platforms).
Administrative & Operational Support
  • Assist in day-to-day operations of the Clinical Learning Center, including scheduling, resource coordination, and equipment management.
  • Support maintenance and operational readiness of simulation equipment, audiovisual systems, and clinical learning technologies.
  • Contribute to policy development and implementation related to CLC instructional operations.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement processes for CLC programs and services.
  • Serve in an acting leadership capacity for the CLC in the absence of the Director.
Scholarship/Continuous Improvement Activities
  • Contribute to descriptive analyses and program evaluation related to clinical skills education.
  • Participate in scholarly or quality improvement projects related to simulation-based education and standardized patient programs.
  • Collaborate on dissemination activities related to teaching and learning innovations.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or terminal degree in Nursing, Medicine, Physician Assistant Studies, Health Sciences, Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Current active Florida licensure as a healthcare professional, as appropriate to the candidate's discipline and responsibilities (e.g., RN, APRN/NP, PA, or MD/DO), by start date.
  • Position requires periodic travel to regional campuses and affiliated College of Medicine instructional sites. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Florida or Georgia driver's license within 60 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching, training, or clinical instruction in health professions education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, MD, DO, DNP, or equivalent) in Nursing, Medicine, Physician Assistant Studies, Health Sciences, Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in clinical practice, health professions education, or healthcare administration.
  • Experience in simulation-based education, standardized patient programs, or clinical skills laboratories.
  • Experience with curriculum development in medical or health professions education.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic program coordination, simulation center operations, or healthcare education leadership.
  • Familiarity with simulation technologies (e.g., Laerdal, Gaumard, or comparable systems).
  • Experience with continuous quality improvement (CQI), program evaluation, or educational outcomes assessment.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills in an academic medical environment.
